Best Made Axe Restoration Workshop, Minnesota Edition

Last Friday afternoon we had the pleasure to host our second axe restoration workshop. Lead by the Minnesota Outpost’s fearless leader, Nick Zdon, a group of 10 participants learned the ins and outs of what makes a good axe for restoration, the subtle differences between European and American axes, rehanging a new handle, and the basics of axe maintenance. A number of the participants were gracious enough to bring their own axes and tools into the workshop as well. We saw a Kelly brush axe, a Collins double bit, an old Craftsman, and the biggest surprise: a Hult Bruks hatchet; all fit for restoration.

Thanks to everyone who came out on a rather hot afternoon. And a special thanks to Art + Architecture, who allowed us the use of their back room. A tip of the hat also goes to Kirsten Swank for photographing the workshop.
