“In the 1950s, men back from the war full of optimism and creative zeal decided to construct with their own hands- and the great British ability to scrounge and make do- a truly remarkable piece of ‘folk art’. Using metal cut from the sides of naval paraphernalia cadged from god knows where, men such as Lt Cdrs Freddie Nunn, a butcher, and Doug Greathurst (to name but two) built a close approximation of a Royal Navy ship inside the church. After a hundred years, the iron chapel, now called Cambridge Hall or the Tin Tabernacle, had its ideal interior” - World of Interiors, April 2010.
